The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) consists of seven electoral areas and four municipalities, each with its own Official Community Plan (OCP).
The Schooner Cove and Lakes District neighbourhoods reside within Electoral Area E (Nanoose Bay) of the RDN. As the local government, the RDN provides services such as community water and sewer, as well as being the approval authority for land use matters.
In planning for future growth consistent with the RDN’s Regional Growth Strategy, the Neighbourhood Plans for Schooner Cove and the Lakes District recognize the respective strengths of each area, and are guided by principles of sustainability to enhance the completeness and sustainability
of the Nanoose Bay community.
